Best We Can Do

A hairy hoary head before time ever struck in this land

an easy several dozen of us, laid our backs on the sand

we laughed in the sun, had no cell phones nor guns

nobody got paid

A long tricky tale before the tired drivers came on the scene

we had already decided that we'd rather stay green

they'd never seen, minds that stay green

nobody got saved

You come to tell me that's the best we can do

dig a little deeper since you know it ain't true

where you feel warmth, there is bound to be flame

the picture is too big to ever fit in the frame

We were hobbled and corralled with the ghosts of the hosts of the past

force fed signs of every sizing advertising everything that won't last

we've been stoned thru our eyes

in a borrowed disguise

somebody got played

You come to tell me that's the best we can do

dig a little deeper you know it's not true

where you feel warmth, there is bound to be flame

the picture is too big to ever fit in the frame

We survived and just arrived we saw the naked mystics put on a show

with the real magnetic prophet and his sidekick with the sacred glow

we sold it all for a song,

and cheep grass for the lawn

somebody got made

You come to tell me that's the best we can do

dig a little deeper, you know it's not true

where you feel warmth, there is bound to be flame

the picture is too big to ever fit in the frame

it's far too big

it's too big
